IN Firefighter Killed by Apparatus Inside Station Garage

Leonard A. Murray, 53, a Jackson Township (IN) firefighter, was killed Friday night at the Jackson Township Fire Department maintenance garage. Reports say that Murray died while working on a fire apparatus in the bay of the maintenance garage; he was apparently crushed when the truck lunged forward after another person accidentally started the tuck, turning the key to release the steering wheel.

Murray was a captain with the fire department, a first responder, firefighter, and coordinator of the Community Emergency Response Team, as well as a master sergeant in the United States Army Reserve. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and a granddaughter.
