A cuts package, proposed by London fire commissioner Ron Dobson to save £45 million, would also axe 520 firefighter posts and 18 fire engines, reports the London Evening Standard.
Paul Embery, Fire Brigades Union regional secretary for London, said: “The proposed cuts are reckless and wrong. You can’t slash 12 fire stations, 18 fire engines and 520 firefighter posts without jeopardising public safety.”
Firefighters were protesting outside this afternoon’s meeting of the London fire authority. The other stations listed for closure are: Belsize, Bow, Clerkenwell, Downham, Kingsland, Knightsbridge, New Cross, Silvertown, Southwark, Westminster and Woolwich.
