Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) company, and Detroit Diesel Corporation today announced a five-year extension to their original 2009 agreement involving the Detroit DD13 engine and Pierce fire trucks. Through 2018, the Detroit DD13 engine remains available only on Pierce’s complete line of custom fire and emergency vehicles, including those built on the Dash CF, Quantum, Velocity, and Arrow XT chassis.
“When it comes to selecting the right vehicle to meet the needs of their communities, Pierce customers expect nothing but the best, which includes key components such as the engine,” said Jim Johnson, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Fire & Emergency. “This extension of Pierce’s exclusive offering of the Detroit DD13 engine on custom apparatus is important because of its proven track record for power, reliability and ultra low emissions.”
“Detroit enjoys a great relationship with Pierce and we’re proud to continue this exclusive custom apparatus product offering with them for five more years,” said Brad Williamson, manager, engine and component marketing for Daimler Trucks North America. “There’s an excellent synergy between the brands, and it’s fitting that this new agreement is announced while both companies are celebrating important milestones — Pierce’s100th year in business and Detroit’s 75th.”
The Detroit name is well known throughout the fire service, and it is synonymous with fuel-efficiency and low-maintenance performance. The DD13 engine’s smart design includes groundbreaking technologies such as Amplified Common Rail System (ACRS) and BlueTec emissions technology to improve performance and fuel economy. The DD13 satisfies 2014 Greenhouse Gas (GHG14) regulations.
