Virginia Fire Department Uses Drone in Rescue Operations

The Bedford (VA) Fire Department has been using its new camera drone in rescue operations, according to a new report.

WFXR (http://bit.ly/1FYvUVg) says department has had the device for a little more than a month and already they have used it during an incident in which people were lost on an area river.

Curtis Marshall, the primary operator of the device, told reporters that firefighters “were able to deploy [the drone] quicker than getting the boats in the water due to access or what have you. I was able to deploy it quickly, go up river, search and come back to where I was at. Land it, change battery and go down river check islands where boat wasn’t possible.”

The technology was also deployed in another incident involving a lost hiker.
