A woman allegedly stole a fire apparatus in Kentucky while firefighters worked to extinguish a fire, according to a news report.
The Louisville Courier Journal reported that Jessica Carol Clines, 39, was arrested after she purportedly stole the fire truck while crews were on scene at an active fire. A firefighter was apparently struck by part of the vehicle when he tried to intervene, the report noted.
The rig’s front fender on the driver’s side was damaged during the theft, the report said.
While firefighters inevitably face extraordinary danger as part of their response to structure fires and similar emergencies, a rash of recent incidents have highlighted the threats crew members face from vehicles and roadway accidents. Earlier in October, a Louise (TX) firefighter was killed after being struck by a vehicle and a San Antonio (TX) firefighter died after being struck after stepping off a rig after an incident. In this case, fortunately, the firefighter did not sustain significant injuries
