Phoenix, AZ – On December 15, Phoenix Fire Department Chief Alan Brunacini announced his intention to retire from the department effective June 30, 2006. “In spite of my best efforts, I have failed to outperform my worn-out knees, failing mental capacity, and the drop plan,” says Brunacini. “Based on that failed effort, I will limp into retirement on June 30, 2006.
Brunacini, a frequent speaker at the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) will fill his time away from the department with several ongoing projects, but knows it won’t be easy leaving. “I am certain that I will be shouting as they drag me out kicking and screaming, ‘Stop if the light is red, be nice to Mrs. Smith, and take care of each other.'”
