Peter Van Dorpe, Chicago (IL) Fire Department, will present “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants” as his keynote address at FDIC on Thursday, April 19, during the General Session, 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. in the Sagamore Ballroom in the Indiana Convention.
Using a model that encompasses Fire Service Past, Fire Service Present, and Fire Service Future, Van Dorpe will illustrate the relationships among these model sectors and the reasons today’s fire service members should “Leave the job a little better for the next guy.“ Some ways they can achieve this is by serving the fire service as well as their communities, living up to their standard, and by preparing the next generation of firefighters to do the same
Van Dorpe is a 32-year veteran and the director of training for the Chicago (IL) Fire Department. He is a lead instructor for the Chicago Fire Department’s Fire Officer School and teaches building construction for the fire service through the City Colleges of Chicago. He has recently participated as a subject matter expert for Underwriters Laboratories’ research on “Structural Stability of Engineered Lumber Under Fire Conditions” and the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s “Evaluating Firefighting Tactics Under Wind-Driven Conditions.”
