This workshop delves into the essential role of leadership in supporting the mental health of first responders. It highlights the importance of cultivating a supportive organizational culture through effective leadership, open communication, and trust building. The course goes beyond responding to traumatic events, focusing instead on the proactive measures leaders can take to promote psychological well-being within their teams. Participants will explore emerging theories on suicide prevention, including the debunking of common myths and the importance of preplanning. The workshop also examines the increasing prevalence of PTSD among emergency service professionals, offering insights into its symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment. Evidence-based research will guide discussions on trauma origins and paths to resilience, with an emphasis on strategies like mindfulness, rest, and psychological safety. Leaders will gain practical skills for conducting difficult conversations, providing peer support, and developing mental wellness resources, ultimately fostering healthier, more resilient teams.
