The Grand Island (NE) Fire Department

designed its EMERGENCY ONE pumper for EMS response and fire attack, according to Chief Jim Rowell. The department protects an urban area with wide streets that can accommodate a unit with a long wheelbase.

- CUMMINS ISC 300-hp diesel engine with ALLISON MD 3060P automatic transmission;
- HALE Qmax single-stage, 1,250-gpm pump with two 13/4-inch crosslays, 13/4-inch front bumper line, midship booster reel with one-inch hose, rear 21/2-inch preconnect, and a prepiped AKRON Apollo 1,250-gpm monitor;
- AKRON foam system;
- EMERGENCY ONE 515-gallon water tank with above-the-tank ladder and tool storage;
- ROBINSON rollup doors, heated compartment for EMS equipment, and four sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
- light and power with A.M.P.S. 10-kw hydraulic generator and two midship FIRE RESEARCH floodlights; and
- RUDD auto chains.
The Pennfield Township (MI) Fire Department

protects a jurisdiction that is two-thirds nonhydranted. Chief Gerald Cooper explains that this MARION BODY WORKS pumper/tanker can operate in all areas.

The Fairlawn (OH) Fire Department

designed its PIERCE pumper to carry the maximum amount of equipment because, according Fire/Medic Edward Schepp, it is one of only two pieces of firefighting apparatus in the community. The CAFS conserves water supply for fire attack in case a mutual-aid support pumper is delayed.

- HYPRO Foam Pro 1600 Class A foam system and PIERCE Hercules CAFS with UPF 30-gallon foam tank;
- DOVER rollup compartment doors and four sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
- light and power with A.M.P.S. 15-kw hydraulic generator, nine-kw WILL BURT Night Scan, and seven HAVIS SHIELDS Alpha 2000 floodlights;
