APPARATUS DELIVERIES
Interstate 95 runs through a good portion of the area covered by the West Trenton (N.J.) Fire Company, so it’s expected that the department’s new rescue unit will respond to many extrication calls.
The Sanford Fire Apparatus Corp. unit is built on a Pemfab Truck Model Imperial T-942A Series chassis. It features a tilt and telescoping steering column and a quick build-up brake system; an on-board cascade system; an air-operated 26-foot light tower; and a 12 kilowatt hydrogenerator. The interior of the rear body houses a command center with a full complement of radios, maps, and first aid equipment. A 16-foot squad bench can fold down to carry two stretchers for patient transport.

An in-house committee from the Harrisburg (Pa.) Fire Department developed specifications for four Sutphen fire apparatus, including this pumper-squad, with regard for firefighter safety and tactical considerations.
The unit has a front strobe light, which acts as an intersection warning light. It also has three-point seatbelts. It’s equipped with a Detroit 8V7IN diesel engine and an Allison HT740D automatic transmission; a Hale 1,500-gpm, two-stage pump and a 500-gal. water tank; and a 50-gal. foam tank. It carries four 1,000-watt floodlights, two of which are on removable tripods.
