APPARATUS DELIVERIES

The Westland (MI) Fire Department operates two EMERGENCY ONE apparatus. Deputy Chief David Carigan says one operates as a pumper for general firefighting, the other as a quint with a Teleboom.

The Westport Island (ME) Fire Department protects an unhydranted area with numerous narrow roads, some of which are unpaved, according to Chief Rusty Robertson. This 4 GUYS tanker is designed with a short length to access these tight areas; side dump valves were not specified because they would not be usable in these situations.

The Thibodaux (LA) Volunteer Fire Department replaced an old three-quarter-ton van (which served as a backup dispatch center) with this mobile command center built by LYNCH DIVERSIFIED VEHICLES (LDV). Chief Mike Naquin explains that the new truck is much larger and capable of communicating with numerous other agencies and neighboring fire departments; it also receives wireless thermal imaging camera transmissions.

The Polson (MT) Fire Department designed its PIERCE pumper to provide increased firefighter safety and easy access to equipment, according to Chief Tom J. Maloney. The enclosed topmount pump panel affords protection during severe weather.

light and power with HARRISON 10-kw hydraulic generator, four GFE floodlights (two pole raise at rear of cab, two fixed at rear), and HANNAY electric cord reel.

The West Jefferson Fire Protection District in Terreton, Idaho, protects a rural area. According to Commissioner Dale Cope, the district specified pump-and-roll capability and a bumper turret on this CENTRAL STATES pumper/tanker to fight field fires in particular. The short length allows for maneuverability.

four sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders; and

two FEDERAL Nightfighter spot/floodlights.

The Norfolk (NE) Fire Division designed its SMEAL pumper as a multifunctional engine, according to Chief Steve Weidner. The unit is used for quick response to a rural area for structure and wildland fires and responds to extrication and haz-mat calls.

RAMSEY six-ton, front-mounted winch with front bumper storage;

HURST rescue system, haz-mat equipment; and

light and power with HOMELITE three-kw gasoline generator, FEDERAL Nightfighter spot/floodlight, and two FEDERAL GH scene lights on rear.
