designed its EMERGENCY ONE pumper for firefighting in a small community that is 90 percent rural, according to Chief William R. Mellett. The department protects 1,006 residents in a jurisdiction occupying 58.4 square miles.

The Beloit (WI) Fire Department

has used a quint since 1974, and it has worked well for them, according to Deputy Chief Bryan Northrop. This standard design SUTPHEN aerial tower enables the department to adequately protect this medium-sized, 18-square-mile community of 35,000. The jurisdiction includes two major older industrial complexes; the majority of its buildings are of older construction. The platform is useful at large fires and at multiple rescues at small private college dormitories.

The Post Falls (ID) Fire Protection District

uses its AMERICAN LAFRANCE rescue truck primarily for extrications in its district and on mutual aid. Lieutenant Ron Graham says the district fabricated a Class A foam system on board for fire protection at motor vehicle accidents and uses the truck as an air supply unit at fires. The jurisdiction occupies 56 square miles and has a population of 18,000.
