The Jersey City, NJ, Fire Department is now operating two rear-mounted aerial ladder trucks at Truck Company's eight and nine. These are the first two rear-mounts for the city. They are Seagrave 100 footers with the WB cab. Jersey City chose rear-mounts after an experimental period of testing a surplus New York City truck. Numerous evaluations proved to them that rear-mounts are easier to operate, cost less to purchase and maintain, and produce less accidents. Each features a Detroit Diesel and an automatic transmission. In addition to the standard ladder company equipment, Truck 9 carries the Amkus Jaws rescue tool.

Hartford, CT Engine 7 is operating a new Pirsch all-aluminum bodied four-door pumper. It is reported to be the first Pirsch aluminum bodied pumper. The unit features a Hale QSMF 1500 gpm single stage pump and 500 gallon water tank. It is powered by a 6V92TA Detroit Diesel and Allison HT 750D automatic transmission. One major feature is a low hose-bed design due to relaxed height requirements particular to female firefighters. Other specifications include two-1 3/4 inch and one2 1/2 inch preconnected discharge in a mattydale bed, a 3 1/2 inch prepiped Stang monitor nozzle, two-3 1/2 inch auxilary intakes, a Ross dump relief valve and rear-mounted booster reel.
