A firefighter was airlifted to an area hospital after suffering a serious injury while battling a truck fire on Interstate 295 Thursday afternoon in Florence, New Jersey.
A report on phillyburbs.com (http://bit.ly/LM7hsH) indicated the truck fire was reported at 1:30 p.m. and was brought under control by 2:15 p.m. Details about the firefighter’s injuries were not immediately available.
Phillyfirenews.com (http://bit.ly/NkiyDX) reported the injury occurred in an explosion at the incident scene. They report that six other firefighters were transported in the incident.
New Jersey State Police told 6abc.com (http://bit.ly/LOzNhx) the fire appears to have started near the rear brakes or brake line and spread into the trailer. The seriously injured firefighter was struck in the head by a rear trailer door when it flew open after some type of an explosion.
