Man Sentenced for Stealing Buffalo (NY) Fire Truck

According to a report from WGRZ, Yassin Abdikadir, 26, was sentenced to five years probation Monday morning for one count of grand larceny in the second degree after pleading guilty to stealing a Buffalo (NY) Fire Department (BFD) fire truck last year.

In February, Abdikadir plead guilty to stealing the BFD’s Engine 1 truck while firefighters were tending to a medical emergency on July 14, 2022, at around 11:50 p.m.

After the theft, the Buffalo Police Department received a report of the abandoned engine on Delaware Avenue and Allen Street. Abdikadir struck three parked vehicles and then abandoned the truck. He was later found hiding in a garbage tote.

In addition to the plea deal, Abdikadir also plead guilty to third-degree attempted burglary after breaking into a locked storage cabinet and stealing 50 bottles (approximately $2,000 worth) of alcohol at a restaurant Ellicott Street between E Mohawk Street and E Eagle Street a few hours after stealing the engine.

As part of that plea deal, Abdikadir was ordered to stay away from the restaurant.
