A Memphis (TN) firefighter was killed and three others injured in a motor vehicle collision involving a fire truck Wednesday night, according to reports.
A civilian was also injured in the crash, however per WREG 3, no details were available on that individual’s condition. The three other injured firefighters were reportedly released. The fallen firefighter was identified as David Pleasant, the the driver of Truck 5 stationed at Fire Station 8; according to the department, he began with the department on July 9, 1990, and served for 32 years.
The fire department was responding to a fire in the 500 block of Cambridge Avenue when the crash occurred, the report noted.
According to the U.S. Fire Administration, on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, four firefighters were responding to a residential fire when the driver of a pick-up truck apparently ran a red light, hitting the fire apparatus and causing it to roll on its side. All four firefighters were transported to the Regional One Health Trauma Center. Driver David Pleasant, 59, passed away from the injuries he sustained in the crash. The other three firefighters have been treated and released. The driver of the pick-up truck was also transported to the hospital. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
