NM Firefighter Dies After Being Struck by Fire Apparatus

A firefighter with the Caballo (NM) Volunteer Fire Department was killed when she was run over by a fire apparatus while operating at the scene of a motor vehicle incident.

According to the report from the U.S. Fire Administration, on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, Firefighter Janet Tracy, 59, was at the scene of a single vehicle non-injury crash on I-25 south of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. While providing aid and support to the scene, another firefighter who was repositioning a Caballo fire truck struck her. She was pronounced dead at the scene. 

New Mexico tate Police spokesman Ray Wilson told reporters that the driver of the rig did not see Firefighter Tracy and backed over her, and that the apparatus was not equipped with a backup cameria.

Firefighter Tracy also served as the Secretary for the department.
