Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) company, today announced that it has received an order for three Quantum® pumper vehicles and one Quantum aerial platform from the Mesa Fire Department in Mesa, Arizona. The Mesa Fire Department’s front line apparatus fleet will grow to include 33 Quantum pumpers and five Quantum aerials. The vehicles will be delivered beginning in January 2012.“Since its introduction, the innovative Quantum chassis has proven itself as an excellent choice for room, visibility, and ride quality – so much so that departments have chosen to standardize their firefighting fleets around its capabilities,” said Jim Johnson, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Fire & Emergency. “It’s a great honor when we see the Quantum continue to grow with fine organizations like the Mesa Fire Department.”
“I write the specs together with our apparatus committee, and we look for a happy medium that will benefit both the firefighters and the maintenance department,” said Mesa Fire Maintenance Resource Superintendent, Larry LaBarbera. “Firefighters love the Quantum for the room inside, the automatic drop down folding steps, and the excellent visibility. And, our maintenance team likes the quality and durability. It’s just a great truck and it hangs together – a user friendly vehicle for the guys out in the field and for my mechanics.”
The Mesa Fire Department utilizes a standard replacement schedule that calls for new vehicles every 8-10 years, or 130,000 miles. The department then rotates the units into reserve status for 3-5 years, or 150,000 miles.
The city of Mesa is the 40th largest city in the United States. Mesa Fire Department was formed in 1897 and covers a protection district of 132 square miles with a population of 468,012.
