Replacement apparatus needed

Raymond R. Purcell, Jr.

Firefighter

Slocomb, Alabama

I am writing on behalf of my brother members to ask your readers for help in bringing our department up to standards. Like most small volunteer departments, we have virtually no budget. Our main source of money is donations. Unfortunately, since we have so many volunteer departments in our area, we are limited to seeking most of our donations from within our small town. Since most of our residents are on a fixed income, this is of little help.

We are going through every official channel there is, but with government budget cuts, help is in short supply. The vehicles we have now, one 1963 GMC pumper and one small brush truck, are not in the best condition due to their age. Right now, the prospects of getting anything to replace these through the Forestry Commission are slim at best. To save money, we have beendoing most of our own repairs, but some repairs we just can`t do.

If you can help, please contact me at Route 2, Box 61; Slocomb, AL 36375; (334) 792-5487.
