SD Department Purchases Truck That Served at Ground Zero

From RapidCityJournal.com:

The Menno (SD) Fire Department (MFD) has purchased a fire truck with a special history.

The truck comes from Wallkill, N.Y., where it played a key role transporting firefighters to Ground Zero during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Yankton Press & Dakotan reported.

MFD Fire Chief Scott Simonsen said the station had been looking for a new truck to replace its old rescue truck for some time before the staff came across the Wallkill vehicle on the Internet.

The squad struggled to find trucks for less than $80,000, but in June 2012 Simonsen found the Wallkill truck listed for $37,500. It took more than a year to complete the deal and secure the title.
