Bedford (VA) – Six firefighters were hospitalized Wednesday morning after a pumper truck overturned.

All of the injured firefighters are in stable condition, according to Deputy Chief Janet Blankenship of the Bedford (VA) Fire Department. Virginia State Police Sgt. Bob Carpentieri said the injuries were non-life-threatening. The firefighters’ names were not immediately available.

The Forest (VA) Volunteer Fire Department’s Pumper 5 truck was traveling south around 6:30 a.m. in the 4000 block of New London Road en route to a fire on Wyatts Way, officials said.

The engine went off the right side of the road, and the driver overcorrected, said Carpentieri.

The engine crossed both lanes, striking a fence in front of the New London Steakhouse before overturning.
