WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, IN—The driver of a Washington Township (IN) Fire Department tanker fire apparatus was killed on Sunday after losing control of the truck and crashing while en route to a reported brush fire.
The operator was attempting a right hand turn when the truck rolled several times, eventually stopping approximately 100 yards away from the intersection.
As it rolled, it struck three utility poles, which brought down live wires. Before rescue crews could extricate the apparatus operator, utility workers responded to secure power to the down power lines.
The apparatus operator was the only person in the vehicle at the time.
