VA Firefighter Dies in Tanker Accident

A young volunteer firefighter was killed in an apparatus accident early this morning in Hampshire County, West Virginia.

Zachary Whitacre, 21, of the Gore (VA) Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, died when the tanker he was riding on crashed into an embankment, according to a report from wvmetronews.com (http://bit.ly/wFGcth).

The driver of the tanker reportedly lost control on the vehicle as it was traveling on an icy road. The firefighter was thrown from the vehicle and died.

According to some news reports, the driver was the father of the firefighter who died. The driver was also injured in the crash.
