Citing unproven claims that their hand sanitizers prevent methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacterial infection, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued warning letters to four manufacturers. TEC Laboratories, JD Nelson and Associates, Dr. G H Tichenor Antiseptic Company and CleanWell Company were advised that the labeling of their products is in violation of federal law. The FDA does not have evidence that the hand sanitizers made by these manufacturers are effective against MRSA. Bottom line: know the ingredients of the hand sanitizers you purchase and use and be familiar with the effectiveness of those ingredients.
