The Hannibal Fire Department announced today that, effective December 12, 2024, Fire Station #2 in Huckleberry Park will temporarily close due to ongoing staffing shortages.

The closure, which will remain in effect until staffing levels return to normal, is part of a larger effort to address the department’s staffing challenges, Fire Chief Ryan Neisen said in announcing the closure via Facebook.

Retirements, medical leaves, and difficulties in recruiting firefighters all contributed to the shortage.

The department said despite the closure it will continue to respond to emergencies.
