In a move to enhance services to local residents, Sevier County Fire and Rescue has merged with the Wares Valley Volunteer Fire Department, WBIR 10 News reports.
This merger aims to support the growing demand for emergency services in the community.
The Wares Valley Volunteer Fire Department, which has been serving the area since the 1980s, has seen a significant increase in call volume in recent years.
With calls rising from 25-30 annually to 300-350, the department has struggled to keep up. The merger will allow for expanded staffing and improved facilities, including the addition of sleeping quarters and more space for full-time personnel.
While additional paid staff will supplement volunteer efforts, the department is still encouraging local residents to consider joining as volunteers to help meet the ongoing demand.
