Mapping the Future of Fire 2002

A Workshop that can drastically change the way you do business…

Presented by: The Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI), Wilson Fire Department, the Omega Group, ESRI, and Compaq Computer Corporation

Presented at FDIC West-Sacramento
Tuesday, April 30, 8 a.m. to 5. p.m. (8-Hour HOT Evolution)

Last year in New Orleans, participants at “Mapping the Future of Fire” had the opportunity to see how Wilson, North Carolina and Fire Chief Don Oliver have utilized Graphic Information Systems (GIS) technology to improve upon the management and leadership of their fire department. Participants in last year’s activities were exposed to the basics of GIS. Since the events of September 11th, the Mapping the Future of Fire session has added an entirely new dimension-planning for homeland security. This year’s session is an advanced presentation that will demonstrate more of the practical tools and tips that are emerging from this experimental project. Newcomers will find all of the basics are being preserved. Those with experience will be exposed to new and exciting tools and techniques. These will include creating data warehouses, organizing user groups, and creating fire department specifications for acquisition of GIS technology. All participants will receive a student notebook as well as additional resources.

Join us at FDIC West and learn how geographic information systems can enhance your department’s response capability. No more flipping through map books and bulky three-ring binders. Firefighters now have fast access to detailed city maps, building plans, the location of potential hazards such as propane tanks and electrical connections…and much more.
