A family of four escaped their home after fire broke out in the upstairs bedroom of their Indianapolis (IN) home on Wednesday. There were no working smoke detectors in the residence.
One resident told firefighters that her 12-year-old son alerted her to the fire and they fled. Her initial thought is that a space heater in an upstairs bedroom may be the cause, but investigators will look at all possible causes.
Eleven Indianapolis (IN) Fire Department (IFD) units were dispatched to the scene. Fire crews found fire showing on arrival. They employed three handlines and two supply lines for an aggressive interior attack. Firefighters brought the fire under control in 30 minutes.
