MSA SAFETY INC.’s new jet-style fire helmet, the Cairns® XF1, received third-party certification as compliant to the 2018 edition of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1971, Standard on Protective Ensembles for Structural Fire Fighting and Proximity Fire Fighting, performance standards. It is also certified as compliant to the 2013 edition of NFPA 1951, Standard on Protective Ensembles for Technical Rescue Incidents, performance standards for technical rescue. The XF1 helmet incorporates several optional user features, which include a protective visor, an integrated communication system and LED lights that, because of their placement on either side of the helmet, significantly improve visibility without blinding others on scene. .
The CONGRESSIONAL FIRE SERVICES INSTITUTE and the NATIONAL FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS FOUNDATION selected the Florida Firefighters Safety and Health Collaborative and the Denver (CO) Fire Department (DFD) as co-recipients of the Senator Paul S. Sarbanes Fire Service Safety Leadership Award, which will be presented at the National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner on April 25, 2019, in Washington, DC. Established in 2016, the Florida Firefighters Safety and Health Collaborative brings together members of the fire service and health and safety advocates in the state of Florida to share information and best practices on firefighter health and safety. The DFD is being recognized for its Safety and Training program, which incorporates fitness, nutrition, and behavioral health that can be tailored to the needs of each individual firefighter. .
