Many incidents require some type of generator-based power supply for fans, lights, and other equipment. Be proficient before this equipment is needed in a hurry. Quick set-up requires a knowledge of circuit breaker, load ranges, amp rating, and a variety of other factors. Review the capabilities and limitations of permanently mounted generator equipment and the available portable resources to bring power supplies to an incident. Make sure all manufacturer information is followed especially on load ratings of the outlets and equipment. Discuss extended operations and servicing of these units and the hazards of electrical safety when using portable power supplies.
Review National Fire Protection Association 1410, Standard on Training for Initial Emergency Scene Operations, for additional information and skill applications.
