Nightclub Fire Survivor Calls for Changes

Washington, D.C. – Following the recent nightclub tragedies in Chicago, Illinois and West Warwick, Rhode Island, Congressman Curt Weldon (R-PA), and Congressman James Langevin (D-RI) will hold a press conference with a nightclub fire survivor and a firefighter that responded to the Rhode Island incident on Thursday, March 13, 2003.

Congressman Weldon and the attendees will call on states to adopt new safety precautions requiring nightclubs and other concert venues to inform patrons about safety measures as well as the location of all exits before concerts, and shows begin.

Weldon will also discuss legislation being considered that will create tax incentives for owners of older buildings to install sprinkler systems. Many buildings built before 1974 are often exempt from installing the expensive systems.
