An apartment fire early Monday morning near the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire killed one student and left his roommate critically burned. Two other roommates were treated and released after the incident.
The Star-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/RaADZd) that an autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday in connection with the predawn off-campus fire.
Shortly before 6 a.m., an off-duty police detective saw flames coming from the windows of the second-story apartment above a real estate office. Fire personnel went in and joined police in attempting to resuscitate the two badly-injured students, who were then taken to a nearby hospital.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

UPDATE: A second student at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has died. This student had suffered serious burns and had been in critical condition.
