Advanced Fire Panels Selected to Safeguard Original Magna Carta

Global fire systems business Advanced was chosen to protect one of the most famous historic documents in the western world. An original copy of the Magna Carta is protected by Advanced MxPro intelligent fire alarm and ExGo suppression control panels. Installation was completed by Reflex Systems.

Drafted by the Archbishop of Canterbury and sealed by King John in 1215, the Magna Carta set the precedent for such documents as the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution. The Magna Carta celebrated its 800th anniversary on June 15, 2015. Today, one of only four surviving copies of the document resides in a vault in Lincoln Castle (Lincoln, England), an 11th century structure listed as a United Kingdom scheduled monument.

The MxPro fire system includes two panel ranges, the EN54-2&4 approved MxPro 4 and EN54-2, 4&13 approved MxPro 5.

The ExGo fire suppression control panel was developed specifically for sensitive and strategic assets such as server rooms, historic and cultural attractions and control rooms. It has been installed in high-profile buildings across the globe, including the Romanian National Library and along oil pipelines in Sudan.

A spokesperson for Lincoln Castle commented: “We’re very pleased with the Advanced systems. As the Castle is a listed building, it was essential that the panels and detectors be as discrete as possible, particularly in the Magna Carta Vault. This year marks the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta and we are happy that our visitors will be able see one of the four original copies under the protection of Advanced panels.”
