BOCA International announces Fire Prevention Inspector I certification exam

The Fire Prevention Inspector I certification examination is now available from Building Officials & Code Administrators (BOCA) International, Inc. Its first Fire Prevention Inspector II certification examination will be available this month.

The Inspector I exam is appropriate for the field fire inspector who will meet the job performance criteria of NFPA 1031, Chapter 3, as well as the BOCA National Fire Prevention Code. These individuals, considered entry-level professionals, conduct field inspections; know the applicable codes and standards; and perform administrative activities such as preparing correspondence and inspection reports, handling complaints, and maintaining files related to any inspections conducted.

The Inspector II exam is appropriate for the field or administrative fire inspector who has mastered the job performance criteria of Fire Prevention Inspector I and meets the job performance criteria of NFPA 1031, Chapter 4 (Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector–1993), as well as the BOCA Fire Prevention Code. This individual is expected to conduct field inspections and perform administrative activities such as those cited above and to implement policy, recommend changes to codes and standards, and train others in fire protection and prevention. He can supervise others.

Both examinations will be administered by Assessment Systems Incorporated (ASI) at 150 test centers located throughout the 50 states and in the District of Columbia. The cost for each exam is $125. For additional information, contact BOCA at (708) 799-2300, ext. 334.
