BOCA Requires Detectors

BOCA Requires Detectors

Smoke detectors will be required in all existing hotels, motels and apartments under a code section adopted at the 66th Annual BOCA Conference in Hartford, Conn.

The code change, which will appear in the 1982 supplement to the Basic Fire Prevention Code, was written by Kelly P. Reynolds, a fire and life safety consultant. It requires smoke detectors to be installed in all sleeping areas, suites and guest rooms of existing hotels, motels, lodging houses, boarding houses and apartments.
