Dalmatians and the Fire Service, Fire Safety Tips, and More!

Hi, boys and girls! Sparkles the Fire Safety Dog here. I am so excited that you are visiting the Sparkles’ Kids Zone here on firelife.com!

Being a fire safety dog is so much fun! I get to meet lots of new friends and help keep boys and girls, just like you, safe!

Since I wrote you last, I have been one very busy dog! Firefighter Dayna is teaching me lots of new tricks, so that when we go to do a fire safety presentation, we will have lots of fun sharing the fire safety message! Here are some of the things I am learning how to do:

Give Firefighter Dayna a high five with my paw.
Jump through hoops by jumping through one of the hoops, then two hoops at once, then one hoop on one side of Firefighter Dayna, then over to one hoop on the other side.
Walk around and through Firefighter Dayna’s legs. This will take some time, but I am getting it!
Run through my tunnel when she asks me to.
Jump over a bar when Firefighter Dayna asks me to.

The weekend before last, I went to the visit my friend Susan and her friends at the Ward Fire Department. They were all so nice and they really enjoyed showing me their fire station and their fire trucks.

A few days later, I went to do a fire safety presentation at Celia Clinton in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Rotary Club of Tulsa invited us to go. At the school, Firefighter Dayna and I talked about how important it is to know the sound and purpose of a smoke alarm, have an escape map, and practice your plan with the people you live with and that firefighters are your friends. My friends at the Tulsa Fire Department were there too and they dressed out in the gear! It was so pawsome!

My friends from the Tulsa Fire Department are really brave and they love helping teach fire safety, just like me!

Principal Tanya Davis at Celia Clinton Elementary loves helping the children in her school learn all about fire safety!

One thing that Firefighter Dayna is trying to do is to introduce me to horses. Did you know that early in the fire service, Dalmatians were used to run alongside the firefighter’s wagons? The dogs helped lead the horses to the fire and helped keep them calm while the firefighters fought the fire. In this picture, I watched my Uncle Alan ride a horse and Firefighter Dayna told me all about Dalmatians and the fire service! Fire Safety Tip!

Remember, firefighters are your friends and they are there to help you! Don’t hide!

Here is the latest coloring page that I received! This is from a kindergartner from a school in Illinois. Isn’t it great?

This month, I will take all of the names of children who have submitted coloring pages and draw the name of one lucky winner to win one of my fire safety books, pawtographed by me!
