The Deltona (FL) Fire Department recently hosted its 28th Annual Open House at Fire Station 65. Approximately 1,000-1,200 people attended. Deltona Fire Department showcased our newest fire station, fire station 65 and dedicated its newest engine; Engine 61. Firefighters also conducted various demonstrations including an auto extrication demonstration, fire extinguisher demonstration, and CPR demonstrations.
Chief Robert Staples opened the event with a welcoming speech, which was followed by the invocation from Deltona Fire Department Chaplain 61. The award-winning Deltona Fire Department Honor Guard then posted the nation’s colors. The dedication of our latest fire engine, Engine 61, closed out the opening ceremonies.
The remainder of the day consisted of various demonstrations from CPR to a live vehicle extrication demonstration. There was also a clown on hand that did face painting for the children and a Dalmatian style bounce house for the little ones to burn off some energy. Food was provided by Vitas Hospice; their chef cooked more than 1,000 hot dogs. The Deltona Fire Department Explorer post also sold Care Enough to Wear Pink T-shirts for the Deltona Fire Fighters Association to help raise awareness for women’s cancer illnesses.
Next years’ event is already in the planning stages with the hopes of making it even bigger and better.
