Exterior Attack: When to Use It

Dan Madrzykowski of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) recently shared the following information on one fire department’s experience fighting an attached garage fire. It contains the video, photos, and testimony of Highview (KY) Fire Protection District Chief Dave Goldsmith.

“We had a attached garage fire early one morning, which we fought from the outside,” Chief Goldsmith said. “We also kept the door closed between the garage and house. Upon arrival we had two vehicles fully involved inside the attached garage.”

The video below is very low resolution, but gives an indication of conditions during the fire.

“I am on my 28th year if being in the fire service and I can tell you that [Dan’s presentation at VCOS] and the SLICE-RS video has changed my way of thinking,” said Goldsmith.

Below you’ll find a video from Dan discussing exterior attack.
