Arlington, VA � The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has announced the creation of a new bureau bringing together all public safety and emergency communications issues within a single office.
The bureau will be charged with providing a more efficient, effective, and responsive organizational structure to address public safety, homeland security, national security, emergency management and preparedness, disaster management, and other related issues according to the FCC.
“We applaud the Commission and Chairman Martin’s leadership in elevating public safety issues within the FCC and for providing this organizational focus,” said NENA President Dr. Bill Munn, ENP.
“It is NENA’s sincere hope that placing a single bureau in charge of all 9-1-1 issues will enhance the FCC’s continuing efforts to expedite the national deployment of E9-1-1 for all technologies. We look forward to continue working with FCC staff on these critical topics.”
Charged with the responsibility to coordinate all 9-1-1 issues within the Commission, the new bureau has a significant opportunity to provide important guidance and management on numerous issues related to the ongoing deployment of E9-1-1 today and as we migrate to the next generation of 9-1-1 and emergency communications systems.
