FEMA’s Fire Prevention and Safety Grant Application Period Now Open

Apply for FEMA’s Fire Prevention and Safety grant to help fund your department’s fire prevention and safety efforts. The grant supports projects that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and related hazards.

Eligible projects fall under the activities of ‘Fire Prevention and Safety’ (FP&S) and ‘Research and Development’ (R&D). The grant does have a cost share of five percent.

Categories under the FP&S activity include:

  • General Education/Awareness
  • Fire & Arson Investigation
  • Code Enforcement/Awareness
  • National/State/Regional Programs and Studies

Examples of initiatives you may want to seek funding for include fire prevention education and outreach programs, smoke alarm installation and home safety inspection programs, wildland fire prevention programs, and juvenile firesetter prevention programs.

The R&D activity focuses on projects aimed at improving firefighter safety, health, or wellness through research and development that reduce firefighter fatalities and injuries.
