Fire Breaks Out at SUNY Canton Chemistry Lab

The Center for Campus Fire Safety: Boston University Student Dies in Off-Campus Fire

Just before noon today, firefighters rushed to the scene of a fire on the SUNY Canton campus.

The fire is believed to have started in the Science Center/Cook Hall, however details are still coming in. There was an abundance of heavy black smoke seen coming from the building. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but officials say adjacent buildings were evacuated because of concerns about the billowing smoke. Firefighters were close to controlling the fire within two hours.

This fire occurred at the State University of New York at Canton in St. Lawrence County, 120 miles northeast of Syracuse.

As updates become available, The Center for Campus Fire Safety will post them on its Web site.
