Firefighters responded to a deadly explosion and fire Wednesday in Rochester, New York.
According to the Democrat & Chronicle, the blast destroyed a home on Illinois street and damaged two neighboring houses. The body of an individual was recovered from the scene.
A fire apparatus was parked down the street at 7:29 p.m. when firefighters witnessed the explosion, the report said. The explosion sent debris flying, but no one was injured. More than 50 firefighters responded to the scene.
Just before the explosion, local utility crews reportedly saw a male inside the residence and were attempting to make contact with the occupant, who did not answer the door.
Local fire photographer John Spaulding noted that a similar explosion occurred about two streets away in 1988, with Engine 12 being first-due on scene.
The fire is under investigation.
