Firefighter of the Year Award to Ocala, FL, fire marshal

Ocala (FL) Fire Rescue is proud to announce that Fire Marshal Dennis Lawson received the Firefighter of the Year Award. It was presented by the American Legion Post 284, Belleview.

Battalion Chief Lawson began his career with Ocala Fire Rescue in 1989 as a firefighter. Rising through the ranks, he became a fire inspector and was assigned to the Prevention Bureau in July 1998. Last October Dennis was promoted from the rank of Captain to Battalion Chief, and became the Fire Marshal for the City of Ocala. Dennis supervises a division that is responsible for all fire investigations within the City of Ocala, plan review of new construction and fire inspections. This employee was chosen by his peers for this award for many reasons. He has been successful in several recent arson court cases, due in part to his detailed and investigative work. Dennis exemplifies the type of employee who is dedicated to his chosen profession and professionally serves the citizens of our community.
