According to a report from CNYCentral, four members of the Syracuse (NY) Fire Department (SFD) are now hospitalized after responding to a fire in a vacant apartment building late Wednesday night.
The SFD received the call for the incident at 153 Seymour Street at around 11:30 p.m.
On arrival, SFD crews found heavy flames shooting from the building’s 3rd and 4th floors. SFD Chief Michael Monds said that, when entering the building, fire crews discovered and then removed one person on the third floor. That person noted to crews the possibility of someone else who was missing on the 3rd floor, causing crews to continue and intensify their search. However, no one else was found.
Additional resources arrived on scene to extinguish the flames, which took approximately 40 minutes.
There were no other reports of injuries. The conditions of the four SFD members are unknown.
The SFD is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
