Gerry Model 602 Baby Monitor may be fire hazard
Gerry Baby Products Company (Thornton, Colorado) is voluntarily recalling about 990,000 Model 602 Gerry Deluxe Baby Monitors with the date codes 8806 (June 1988) through 9005 (May 1990). The wires inside the monitor may be improperly connected and may be subject to overheating. An additional factor contributing to a potential hazard is that the monitor`s ventilation may be blocked by blankets or other bedding placed around it. The monitor was sold
through juvenile product and baby supply stores and department stores during the above periods.
The monitor has been implicated in 16 incidents (13 involving skin burns from the monitor`s getting hot to the touch). One of the incidents, brought to the CPSC`s attention by a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators, did not result in any injuries. There were two other alleged incidents, one involving a fatality and an injury. According to the manufacturer, only one report (no injuries) of these 16 claims was conclusively determined to have been caused by the monitor. Owners of the monitors should contact Gerry at (800) 672-6289 for a replacement.
