Hale Names Volunteer Firefighter Donald Collins October Safe Firefighter of the Month Winner

The most recent recipient of Hale’s Safe Firefighter of the Month award is Safety Officer Donald Collins of the Howell County Rural Fire Department in West Plains, Missouri. Collins has been a firefighter for the past 10 years, volunteering his time and services as much as possible.

During his time there, Collins has worked to ensure that rules and procedures are followed to a T at the Howell County Rural Fire Department. He enthusiastically participates in department meetings and training sessions while emphasizing the importance of all firefighters following proper safety protocol. Collins also helps score drivers on the department’s driving course in order to be certain that those who operate fire trucks have safety and control mastered.

“Whenever there’s an incident we are called to, firefighter Collins always makes it his mission to protect his fellow firefighters,” said Christel Cantrell, the firefighter who nominated Collins. “He keeps track of everyone on our tag-in tag-out system for emergency response situations.”

When asked what he believes is vital to keeping firefighters safe, Collins said, “Look out for your fellow firefighters. Everyone needs to have each other’s back and communicate.”
