Adopting standards can be challenging for many departments. The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) would like to help lessen these challenges by sharing standard operating procedures/guidelines (SOPs/SOGs) from departments that have been successful in meeting NFPA standards.
Departments can help their colleagues by providing sample SOPs/SOGs focusing on the following NFPA standards:
1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications
1720 Standard for the Organization and Deployment of Fire Suppression Operations, Emergency Medical Operations and Special Operations to the Public by Volunteer Fire Departments
1500 Standard on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program
1851 Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Protective Ensembles for Structural Fire Fighting and Proximity Fire Fighting
The NVFC will also accept SOPs/SOGs dealing with any additional NFPA standard. All departments who submit sample documents will be entered to win a Heart-Healthy Firefighter Cookbook from the NVFC.
The sample documents will be made available through NVFC’s web site for other departments to use as a guide when attempting to draft their own SOPs/SOGs. Participating departments will be identified and their materials will be fully credited to the department.
Email your department’s sample documents to Allison Moore at amoore@nvfc.org.
