Apartments Under Construction: Strategies for Incident Command

More than 100 firefighters reportedly worked throughout the night battling the fire, which evidently started on the sixth floor and then burned up through the seventh floor, Jacksonville Chief Keith Powers told reporters.

Crews got the fire under control, but then its apparently rekindled. Open void spaces in the construction permitted the fire to spread throughout the building, Chief Powers said.

At least one wall blew out during operations, sending debris onto a nearby fire apparatus and nearly missing firefighters. No injuries were reported, and firefighters were still working at the scene early Monday.
