JUDY COOPER, chief of the Rattlesnake Fire Protection District in Parker, Colorado, is the 1999 recipient of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Volunteer Chief Officers Section Executive Fire Officer (EFO) Scholarship. The $500 award, funded by VFIS, was established to provide chief officers of volunteer fire departments the opportunity to participate in the National Fire Academy`s (NFA) Executive Fire Officer Program. Although there is no cost for tuition or board at the NFA, attendees must pay for food and may have to take time off from their jobs to attend.

Those interested in applying for next year`s scholarship should request an application from Chief Fred Windisch, Ponderosa Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 90674, Houston, TX 77290-0674. Applicants must be a member of the IAFC and an EFO participant between July 1, 1999, and June 30, 2000, to qualify.
