LifeGard V PASS devices recalled

The Safety Equipment Institute (SEI), in cooperation with Allen Telecom Inc., of Cleveland, Ohio, is recalling about 1,459 LifeGard V PASS devices, Model R500. The devices have a production date of March 14, 1997 or later.

The devices failed to meet the requirements of NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) 1982, Standard on Personal Alert Safety Systems (PASS) for Fire Fighters–1993, Section 5-7, Impact Resistance Testing Requirements in the Cold Condition (5-7.2.2), which stipulates that the sample PASS device shall be exposed to a temperature of 1407F and then be set in the automatic mode and dropped eight times at a three-meter height onto a concrete surface (5-7.3) U. “Following each drop, the sample PASS shall remain motionless and shall sound the pre-alert and alarm signals from the automatic mode to determine the proper functioning as specified in 3-3.3 for determining pass/fail U. ”
